Narmeen Marji

An impossible house, built from my work

Narmeen Marji

Architect, urban planner, XR expert, researcher, musician, creative director and founder.

In this house every wall is a floor that has not been used yet. Scroll and gravity turns.

I. The endless stair

Many roles, one staircase.

I trained as an architect and spatial planner at the German Jordanian University and worked on large-scale urban planning, regeneration and design across the Arab region, from Jordan and Saudi Arabia to Kirkuk in Iraq. Then I carried that spatial thinking into extended reality in Finland. Each role leads to the next.

  1. ArchitectTrained at the German Jordanian University, with practice in Amman and Hamburg.
  2. Urban plannerMSc in Spatial Planning. Planning and regeneration across the Arab region.
  3. XR expertHelsinki XR Center, and ICT expert for the EU-funded iHERITAGE project.
  4. ResearcherDoctoral research at Tampere University.

My research follows fantastical cities, impossible architecture and what extended reality can make possible in the built environment.

II. Doorways

Doors that open onto real places.

Immersive work you can step inside. Each door holds a project; scroll through the frame.

III. The plan

The city, drawn in plan.

Urban work where physical models, data and extended reality meet. The corridor you came through was a street all along.

The model here is a spatial study, not project documentation.

IV. Original theory, from my doctoral research

Polyspatial Urbanism

The city is not a physical place with digital layers on top. Material structures, computation, virtual content and lived experience make one urban reality. Like this plaza, it has only one side.

  1. 01

    A converged continuum

Urban space spans material, computational, virtual and cognitive dimensions as one field, not as stacked layers.

  2. 02

    Co-produced by people and algorithms

Navigation apps, digital twins and AR art produce space alongside the people who use it. Move through the plaza: the walkers reroute around you.

  3. 03

    Multi-presence

We stand on a street, talk in a group chat and see anchored content at once. Presence extends, and identity is distributed across bodies, avatars and data.

  4. 04

    Environments that respond

A street that senses and anticipates is not an old street made smart. It is a different kind of spatial entity.

  5. 05

A digital right to the city

If algorithms help produce space, then access to digital systems, their transparency and participation in them become spatial rights.

VI. Another frequency

Over twenty years of music.

I have been composing, singing and producing music for over 20 years, from early songs in Arabic and English to 2025 singles in Finnish, Turkish and Russian. Another way of building space, this time in sound.

Escher’s endless stair has a sound, a tone that seems to rise forever. These pipes climb the same way.

VII. The aqueduct

Two houses on one current.

Alongside research and XR, I build ventures of my own. The flow never runs out; it only changes form.

VIII. Closing the loop

It only closes from here.

Every chapter was one continuous structure. The engraved beginning and the luminous end meet at a single point of view.

Drag the structure to see how it really connects.
